6 Steps to Eliminating Spiders this Fall

Eight legs, zero chill. If spiders have turned your home into their personal web HQ, it’s time for a fast, safe reset. At Lawn Plus Pest Control Services, we help homeowners reclaim their space with simple steps that work without turning your living room into a science experiment. Here are six steps to eliminating spiders in your home this fall.

Step 1: Quick Triage

Grab a vacuum with a hose attachment and remove webs, egg sacs, cob webs, and the spiders you see. Empty the canister somewhere outdoors and away from your home. For single intruders, a cup-and-card capture works, too.

Step 2: Stop the Sneak-Ins

Fall is the ideal time to go around and seal gaps around doors, window frames, siding, and utility lines with silicone caulk or weatherstripping. You should also check door and window screens for any rips or snags. In basements and crawl spaces, use fine-mesh covers for vents and be sure to seal foundation cracks.

Step 3: Make Your Home Less Inviting

Spiders follow their food sources—other insects. So, switch exterior lights to warm LED bulbs and aim them away from doors to reduce moth and fly traffic. Inside, declutter storage areas, use lidded bins, and keep items off floors and away from walls. Reducing the bugs in your home helps reduce spider activity.

Step 4: Smart, Safe DIY Treatments

To capture any lingering spiders, you can use sticky traps in corners, behind furniture, and near garage thresholds to monitor activity. You can also continue sweeping up spider webs that occur regularly and follow the bug control measures outlined in step three.

Step 5: Yard Habits That Help

Outside your home, you can stop spiders by trimming vegetation back from siding, clearing leaf litter, and stacking firewood away from the house. You should also clean gutters so moisture doesn’t collect and attract insects that these eight-legged creatures rely on.

Step 6: When to Call the Pros

If you’re seeing frequent spiders, finding egg sacs repeatedly, or noticing bites of unknown origin, it’s time to bring in backup. Venomous spiders are uncommon here, but hitchhikers happen—professional identification and treatment bring peace of mind.
